About Me

San Diego, CA
Welcome to my blog! I'm Shawndene and I started this when planning my dream vintage/rustic-inspired wedding, which was on September 17, 2011. I've decided to keep this blog, although I will no longer be posting wedding-related posts (ok, maybe just a few because I can't help myself)! You'll find mostly DIY crafts, baking, who knows what else...anything I'm into for the moment probably :) Please feel free to comment on any of my posts! Thanks for stopping by!

Bunting

I know this is nothing new to the wedding industry but I am officially a fan of bunting!  Look at these cute pics:

I had to try one out :)  Got the wooden letters and painted them red.  Cut some burlap into triangles and hot glue-gunned (sp?) to some twine.  I still have to add red hearts on the ends of the burlap and I think we'll use it for our engagement pics!

Finished putting the pink & white felt hearts on the paper gray straws (for the champagne cocktails)

Inspiration Boards for our vintage engagement shoot

I just created these inspiration boards for our engagement shoot we're having at my uncle's house in Ramona.  He has a saloon, an old train, horses, tons of space and LOTS more, can't wait!  Click on the 2 links below to see pics of what our outfits will look like, props we'll be using, etc.

Mason Jar Water Tank...yes, please!

This is adorable!!!  It's from World Market, love that store!  I was thinking about maybe having lemonade (if my grandma still has lemons on her tree she said she will make her famous lemonade...it is SOOO delicous!)or water out before the ceremony so guests could have a beverage and I think this jar just sold me...

Hmm, what color should my dream kitchen be?

We're going to register this Sat!  We've been putting it off and I know shower invites will be out soon.  I know one day (hopefully sooner than later) we will move out of our 1 bdrm apartment and be able to buy something, it just doesn't seem like it's in the near future.  So, for the time being I am thinking how sad it will be that I won't get to use many of the gifts we get until this day comes because we have ZERO room for anything in our place.  We'll probably have to rent a storage or something.  But, it does get me excited for the day that I will be decorating a new kitchen (new to me at least).

These beautiful Kitchen Aid mixers got me thinking, when that day comes (and I have to think about it now so I register for the right things), what color should our kitchen be?
red
 this is a pretty blue
I'm really liking this pastel greenish color
pink (might not be O's fav color) :)
 yellow
I never really liked orange that much but I must say ever since my Nana gave me a cute orange teapot I actually do like orange in the kitchen
Oooo, or maybe we'll have new stainless steel appliances and this one will go well?  I can dream!

Decoupage

Decoupaging is my new favorite thing!  This project is not wedding related but whatev.  Since O & I decided not to get eachother gifts for our 4 years of dating anniversary (1-pretty much all our $ goes to the wedding & 2-we're gonna have a new anniversary), I thought I'd make him something.  Sometimes I feel bad because our house is a little girly, not too bad, but it is definitely more me than him.

I had this tray I got from Marshall's a while back for $4 in the bathroom with candles, etc on top and decided to make it a remote control holder for O (we always have 3 remotes on the coffee table scattered about & it drives me crazy) haha, so maybe this is for me, too :)

The before:

I cut out clippings of his favorite baseball player and used Mod Podge to glue them down and then added more coats to the top
This was my first attempt at decoupaging, I think I need to get a roller of some sort to smooth out the wrinkles
 The after:

So there you have it, we have a non-girly thing in our house...it's still cute though, huh? :)
He loved it!

Pineapple Classic 5K

This is the 1st year the Pineapple Classic 5K came to San Diego and Orrin & I joined Christine & Brian's team.  I'll jump at anything that raises money for Leukemia & Lymphoma.  It was SOO much fun!!!  Even though when we started at 7 am it was sprinkling and freeeezing, it warmed up shortly and we had a blast doing all of the obstacles.  Afterwards there was a luau, live music and a beer garden.  Good times for sure!  Here are some pics...

Enjoying the beer garden after the race

Of course, our biggest fan, Imagrace was there! :)

5/17/11

Exactly 4 years ago Orrin & I went on our first date and in exactly 4 months we will be husband & wife!  It's crunch time!!!

What kind of jewelry should I wear???

Ok, maybe I'm going beyond my years here :)  but I am totally into rose gold, look how beautiful it is!

Although I could definitely picture me picking something like this...
(click on picture to make it bigger)

But, what about these?  It's different and not considered "wedding jewelry" but I like it..

I feel like I could wear either silver, golds or colors with my dress, what do you think??

Baby Ashten

Meet my new 2nd cousin, baby Ashten, he's adorable.

I hope everyone had a happy Mother's Day!  While I didn't get to see my mom since she's in Arizona, I did get to spend the day with my wonderful future MIL & fam.  We went to their church and had breakfast at the delicious Hash House A GoGo...yummm!  Then we went to La Jolla Shores and walked on the beach but it started raining so we didn't stay long.  What happened to the sun, it was sooo nice out the day before?!  Despite the slight drizzle it was a great day and I couldn't help but think how lucky I am to be marrying someone who has such a great, loving family.  I am very lucky to be getting the in laws that I'm getting!:)
The whole family, actually.
Love you Kelso's!
