Welcome to my blog! I'm Shawndene and I started this when planning my dream vintage/rustic-inspired wedding, which was on September 17, 2011. I've decided to keep this blog, although I will no longer be posting wedding-related posts (ok, maybe just a few because I can't help myself)! You'll find mostly DIY crafts, baking, who knows what else...anything I'm into for the moment probably :) Please feel free to comment on any of my posts! Thanks for stopping by!

Rustic-Vintage

When people ask me what the theme for our wedding is I usually say something like "Rustic-Vintage" but more modern, haha...which is usually followed by a blank stare :)  So, let me explain...when I say rustic I picture things like a chandelier in a barn, twinkling lights, lots of trees/greenery, burlap, whimsy DIY elements, wood cake stands, the list goes on.  Some rustic things that we'll be incorporating are large mason jars on cocktail tables holding flowers with twine, mason jars for champagne cocktails, chalkboard signs (not sure if that's rustic), jam favors, hopefully a wood cake stand, a burlap banner, possibly making burlap bout's for the guys; that's all I can think of right now..

I think people get the vintage part though.  Here are some vintage details to our wedding:

vintage handkerchiefs

shutters

gray/white striped straws
 lace gloves perhaps?
milk glass vases

With 3 months left to go, I see our wedding becoming more vintage and less rustic.  I just love the soft, romantic look of the vintage details.  Not everything in our wedding matches perfectly & I like it that way because it's different, it's unique & it's us.  The biggest reason Orrin & I booked Orfila is because we loved the simplicity of the venue, the scenery, the mountains.  We thought it was so "us" and we hope our guests can walk away saying "Wow, that was so Orrin & Shawndene!"  Nothing fussy or overdone, just love and loveliness. :)

Some signage I made

Bri is letting us borrow her card box & I dressed it up a little

The first thing the guests will see is the gift/card table so I made a welcome banner to match the card box letters

We had so many left over fabric circles from craft day I got little 2" styrofoam balls & made the flower balls to save money on real flowers

Rough draft of Mr & Mrs signs to hang on the back of our chairs at the reception

What do you think?

Monograms

I wasn't really sold on the idea of having a monogram but I changed my mind.  I think it's a way to kind of tie everything together (and let's be honest, some of the ideas/pictures I have in my head are all over the place!)  We could put it on the programs, favors, it could be printed at the top of all the signs (signs for signature dinks, guest book signs, etc).

What do you think about these?  All FREE from http://www.weddingchicks.com/

I REALLY like this one, the casualness of it.  And, it kinda goes with how we carved the little O+S wood hearts that are tied to the mason jars for cocktail hour tables.
I like both of these, too.  Think I like the pink K better than the gray..
Too fancy schmancy?
So cute because it reminds me of something vintage, but, again maybe too fancy?
Which one do you like?
