About Me

San Diego, CA
Welcome to my blog! I'm Shawndene and I started this when planning my dream vintage/rustic-inspired wedding, which was on September 17, 2011. I've decided to keep this blog, although I will no longer be posting wedding-related posts (ok, maybe just a few because I can't help myself)! You'll find mostly DIY crafts, baking, who knows what else...anything I'm into for the moment probably :) Please feel free to comment on any of my posts! Thanks for stopping by!

Shadow Box

I've been wanting to make a shadow box of all the important wedding items that I didn't want to just put away in a box never to be seen again.  So, with a Michael's 50% off coupon, I got the frame and finally went to work!  Here's what's inside the shadow box:

save the date
wedding invitation
cocktail napkin
cake topper
fabric swatch from table runners
Orrin's boutineere
2 yellow flowers from my  bouquet
lace gloves I wore
lace from my mom's wedding veil (which was around my bouquet)
the playing card Orrin used to ask me to marry him
the bible verse that my cousin, Robyn, read for our ceremony

I love the final product!!!

Christmas Craft!

My extremely talented friend, Becky check out her site, had a craft night and I've been wanting to make a wreath.  I just glued last years ornaments on a styrofoam wreath...

For more detailed instructions, here's the blog I found it on http://matt-and-becky.blogspot.com/2009/12/12-days-of-christmas-crafts-day-5.html

Decoupage

This is my new favorite thing.  My soon to be amazing SIL, Melanie, told me about decoupaging awhile ago and I had never heard or seen of it.  Well, it's pretty cool.  Basically, you cut out pictures; you glue the pictures onto an object; and then cover the object and pictures with a few coats of glue/decoupage medium to protect it. Check out this website if you want to see how many projects you can really do and all you need is the glue, Mod Podge.
We had a bunch of coasters laying around from when O's dad was redoing the tile in their house so I decided to test it out.  I just cut out my favorite pieces of scrapbook paper to fit the tile and started glueing away...

Melanie & Craig just moved into their new place so I made them a little housewarming present
 Plain tile
Different scrapbook pages with a few layers of mod podge
Finished product!  I also added a protective water sealant on top of the coasters so cold drinks don't bleed through the paper.

Some signage I made

Bri is letting us borrow her card box & I dressed it up a little

The first thing the guests will see is the gift/card table so I made a welcome banner to match the card box letters

We had so many left over fabric circles from craft day I got little 2" styrofoam balls & made the flower balls to save money on real flowers

Rough draft of Mr & Mrs signs to hang on the back of our chairs at the reception

What do you think?

Bunting

I know this is nothing new to the wedding industry but I am officially a fan of bunting!  Look at these cute pics:

I had to try one out :)  Got the wooden letters and painted them red.  Cut some burlap into triangles and hot glue-gunned (sp?) to some twine.  I still have to add red hearts on the ends of the burlap and I think we'll use it for our engagement pics!

Finished putting the pink & white felt hearts on the paper gray straws (for the champagne cocktails)

Decoupage

Decoupaging is my new favorite thing!  This project is not wedding related but whatev.  Since O & I decided not to get eachother gifts for our 4 years of dating anniversary (1-pretty much all our $ goes to the wedding & 2-we're gonna have a new anniversary), I thought I'd make him something.  Sometimes I feel bad because our house is a little girly, not too bad, but it is definitely more me than him.

I had this tray I got from Marshall's a while back for $4 in the bathroom with candles, etc on top and decided to make it a remote control holder for O (we always have 3 remotes on the coffee table scattered about & it drives me crazy) haha, so maybe this is for me, too :)

The before:

I cut out clippings of his favorite baseball player and used Mod Podge to glue them down and then added more coats to the top
This was my first attempt at decoupaging, I think I need to get a roller of some sort to smooth out the wrinkles
 The after:

So there you have it, we have a non-girly thing in our house...it's still cute though, huh? :)
He loved it!

DIY Cake Topper

I got this wood letter "K" at Michael's for $2
 Painted it pink
Added a little bling (also from Michae'ls-$2)
 Covered the thing in bling
Ta-da!  $4 cake topper, I love it.  I saw one that looks just like this on The Knot's shop, guess how much....$168!  Seriously?

Headbands for Imagrace :)

Ok, this isn't wedding related, but too cute not to show you peeps!  Look at these 2 headbands I made for Imagrace:
Started out with these 2 headbands
A few flowers from Michael's...
Pink one from 3 different flowers and the scrapbook flower in the center :)
This one's my fav...but the flower is probably the size of her head :)
Ta-da!
Imagrace sporting the pink one, she loves it!
Awwww, isn't she a cutie?!
